Since this program is offered exclusively through RN-to-BSN hospital and health care employers, an Academic Outreach Initiative Code must be entered into the application in order to receive the preferred tuition pricing. Please contact the RN-to-BSN Academic Outreach Initiative Program Coordinator at your health care employer or enrollment services at 1-888-806-8081 to receive the Academic Outreach Initiative Code needed to apply.
After your application is submitted, you will receive an acknowledgement e-mail from Ohio University. After all required information is received, including your transcripts and RN license number, your file will be processed. Following a full review of your application, you will receive communication from the Ohio University School of Nursing when you are accepted into the RN-to-BSN program. Instructions on how to enroll, download your courseware, pay your tuition, and get started will be included. The entire process takes an average of 5-6 weeks from the date you apply until you are ready to enroll in classes. For more information about the steps in the process, visit

If you have submitted all required materials with your application and you have been accepted into the program, your application and fee are good for one year (12 months). However, if you decide to enroll for the first time in a term other than the one for which you applied, you must contact the Admissions Services office for instructions on how to change your session. General course transfer credits will be accepted, with no age limitations, if they meet the University's criteria. Nursing course transfer credits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by an Ohio University advisor.
If you are currently a student in Ohio University's RN-to-BSN program and your employer has joined the Academic Outreach Initiative, you may transfer into the "new" program. Speak to your advisor to ensure the courses you need to complete the degree will be available when you need them.
Ohio University's Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing degree program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
If you graduated from a Diploma program and the school has since closed, contact the hospital that the school was associated with to determine where the records are being stored. Other resources might include the Board of Nursing for that state.
The RN-to-BSN Program consists of 9 Nursing Courses (31 credit hours). Additional support courses are required to earn a bachelor of science in nursing degree, many of which may have been completed during an earlier nursing education program. For a full list, see the

The time for completion will vary by individual, depending on how many courses are taken during each term and how many credits have already been completed toward the general education and support course requirements.
We hope that the flexibility of the courseware will allow you to finish the course you are currently taking. If you cannot continue and you withdraw from the course, you can re-enter later in the sequence and take the course you dropped when it is re-offered. You must withdraw by the drop deadline posted under Important Dates to receive a 'W'. To receive a full refund for the course tuition you must withdraw before the course starts. If you cannot continue and you do not withdraw from the course you will be charged whether or not you attend class. Please note: You must withdraw from the course(s). The instructor is not allowed to do this for you.
Earn a grade of 80% (B-) or better in each Nursing course (NRSE series). If you do not earn a grade of B-, you must retake the course before progressing to the next course in the sequence.
For a 4 credit hour course you should plan to spend a minimum of 12 to 16 hours in searching, studying, and/or writing per week. The amount of time will vary depending upon your skill in using the computer and electronic resources, your reading style and speed, and your writing skills.
Support Courses are the courses, in addition to the courses required in the nursing program, needed to graduate with a bachelor's degree from Ohio University. Courses equivalent to the requirements can be transferred to Ohio University or these courses may be taken online or on an Ohio University campus. Some of these course requirements will be met through the support courses required by the RN-to-BSN program.
After you have submitted your application and sent in your transcripts, an academic advisor with Ohio University will review your information and create a course map that is customized based on your specific needs. The course map will be created in such a way as to ensure that you complete the program the most efficient way possible.

To have your transcripts evaluated you must complete the Ohio University RN-to-BSN Academic Outreach Initiative Program application and submit your transcripts. An academic advisor with Ohio University will review your information and create a course map that is customized based on your specific needs. here. Employers that are part of the Academic Outreach Initiative can pay the tuition directly to Ohio University on a student's behalf if they deem that appropriate. Individuals may pay online by credit card.
Many employers offer tuition reimbursement, but individuals may be eligible for financial aid.
You will need Internet access to download your individual course and online readings onto your computer and to periodically submit and receive feedback on assignments and assessments as well as participate in online discussions.
- Confirm that your system is compatible with Blackboard by going to www.ohio.edu/oit/bbsupport/ and selecting the browser checker or go there directly.
- You will need some additional free software for enhanced web browsing. Ensure that you download the free versions of the software.
- At a minimum, you must have Microsoft Office 2003, XP, 2007 or OpenOffice. Microsoft Office is the standard office productivity software utilized by faculty, students, and staff. Microsoft Word is the standard word processing software, Microsoft Excel is the standard spreadsheet software, and Microsoft PowerPoint is the standard presentation software. Copying and pasting, along with attaching/uploading documents for assignment submission, will also be required.
If you do not have Microsoft Office, you can check with the bookstore to see if they have any student copies.
